In Memory

It’s not my favorite thing
to do

I did, my visit to you

The place
It’s silent and cold
restful, perhaps

Here,
I wish you

My wish,
never comes true

The graves
they are decorated
with flags
and flowers

In Memory, I suppose

Lights,
the solar kind
some are hung
and strung,
for celebrating

In Memory, I suppose

There will be parades
and gatherings
cook outs and music
with lots of people

All kinds of food
and laughter

And tears…

In Memory, I suppose

To that better place
I want to see your face
if just for a minute
or two

But
I will have today
to find a way
to think about
and measure out…

What I have
will have to do

It need not be said
or recollect
the way that
I miss you

But
I will smile
and live awhile
as if not missing you

It’s what I do.

In Memory, I suppose
